Hierbei prangerte er die Willkür der weltlichen und geistlichen Obrigkeit an und deren mangelnde Reformtätigkeit. Die Predigt markiert einen Umbruch in der Geistesgeschichte. Er erhebt das Volk vom einfachen Untertanen zu selbst bestimmenden Menschen.
