Shoalwater Bay Tribe is a Native American tribe in western Washington state in the United States. They are descendants of the Willapa Chinook, Lower Chehalis, and the Northern Athabaskan speaking Willapa (Kwalhioqua). The Shoalwater Bay tribe lives on the southwest coast of Washington in northwestern Pacific County, along the shores of Willapa Bay where the 2.693 km² (1.0397 sq mi) Shoalwater Bay Indian Reservation (46°43′22″N 124°01′33″W / 46.72278°N 124.02583°W) with 70 inhabitants (2000 census) is located. The reservation is just west of Tokeland, Washington.

Tegen die tijd waren ze door met de blanke handelaren meegekomen ziekten sterk uitgedund en grotendeels gemengd met het volk van de Chehalis, waarin ze later volledig zijn opgegaan. De Chinook waren gewiekste handelaren en zijn door hun bonthandel met Britse en Amerikaanse ondernemingen beroemd geworden. Door hun rol in de regionale handel vormde hun taal de basis voor het Chinook Jargon, de lingua franca van de noordwestkust van Noord-Amerika in de 19e eeuw. Ook is hun naam de aanduiding geworden voor de taalfamilie waartoe hun taal behoort, de Chinooktaalfamilie en voor de sprekers van de talen van deze familie. De overgeleverde stamnamen van de Chinook (in enge zin, niet de hele taalfamilie) zijn Chinook, Gitlapshoi, Nemah, Nisal, Palux, Wharhoots en Atsmitl. (nl)
