Stenen Baak is a now-deactivated lighthouse northeast of Oostvoorne, near to the town of Brielle, in the Dutch province of South Holland. In several nautical sources of the 19th Century it is also referred to as Stone Beacon or Stone Baak. It protected the entrance to the Brielle harbour, a safe haven protecting ships from the tides and waters of the North Sea. The harbour is formed by the island of Voorne-Putten and the Brielse Meer and the rivers Oude Maas, Spui and Haringvliet. Brielle received city rights in 1306, developed the harbour during this time up until the fiefdom was added to Holland in 1371. The lighthouse itself was added in 1650. A fixed light during its time of operation, the lighthouse was visible in good weather up to a distance of four miles. It was deactivated in 1850

- De Stenen Baak is een vuurtoren aan de Brielse Maas, ten noordoosten van het centrum van het dorp Oostvoorne en ongeveer drie kilometer ten noordwesten van het centrum van de vestingstad Brielle op het Zuid-Hollandse dubbeleiland Voorne-Putten. Tot de bouw van een stenen toren werd besloten nadat voorgaande houten vuurbakens afgebrand waren. Hij werd in 1630 ontworpen en gebouwd door Maerten Cornelis Paeyse, stadstimmerman van Brielle. Tot 1781 heeft de vuurtoren dienstgedaan als lichtbaken voor de scheepvaart in de monding van de Maas. In de houten lantaarn met glas-in-loodramen boven op de toren brandde 's nachts een groot kolenvuur, dat met blaasbalgen opgestookt werd. Samen met een kleiner baken vormde de Stenen Baak een lichtlijn: lag een schip goed voor de vaargeul, dan zag men de beide lichten recht boven elkaar. Vanwege de veranderlijkheid van geulen en zandbanken was het kleine baken verplaatsbaar. De toren is een rijksmonument. Hij is vierkant gebouwd in baksteen en natuursteen, met drie geledingen die nauwelijks inspringen. Daarbovenop stond de houten lantaarn, maar die is tussen 1800 en 1807 verwijderd. Restauraties zijn er geweest in 1939 en 1965. Vanaf 1999 zijn er plannen gemaakt voor herbestemming en sinds juli 2004 is de toren geopend voor publiek. Het is mogelijk de trappen te beklimmen en een permanente tentoonstelling geeft uitleg over de geschiedenis van het bouwwerk en de omgeving. Het beheer van het monument is in 2016 overgedragen aan de Nationale Monumentenorganisatie. (nl)
