Loren Everett "Steve" Owens (born December 9, 1947) is a former American football player who played professionally as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons in the early 1970s. Owens played college football for the University of Oklahoma, and was the 1969 Heisman Trophy winner and an All-American. He was selected in the first round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, 19th overall, and became the first Lion to rush for over a 1,000 yards in a season.
