He was elected in 2017, and at that time he became the youngest member of the assembly. 9,212 people voted for him. He is a part of the New Macau Association. He stated that his goal was to have direct elections for all seats of the assembly. In 2021 he filed a request for the Macau government to provide information in English. The Macau Daily Times ranked Sou as "Person of the Year" in 2017.

Hierzu zählten Direktwahlen für die gesamte gesetzgebende Versammlung als auch Direktwahlen des Regierungschefs von Macao. 2016 organisierte er eine Demonstration in der Nähe des Hauses des ehemaligen Regierungschefs Fernando Chui, die von der Regierung als illegal bezeichnet wurde. Daraufhin stimmten am 4. Dezember 2016 28 der 33 Abgeordneten dafür, Sou von der Teilnahme an den Sitzungen des Parlaments zu suspendieren und ihm damit die Immunität vor Strafverfolgung zu nehmen. Im Mai 2018 wurde er schuldig gesprochen und zu einer Strafzahlung von 40.800 Pataca verurteilt. Er erklärte daraufhin jedoch erneut für das Parlament kandidieren zu wollen. 2021 stellte er die offizielle Anfrage an die Regierung Macaos Informationen und Publikationen auch auf Englisch zur Verfügung zu stellen. Weiterhin wurde er 2017 von der lokalen Zeitung Macau Daily Times als „Person des Jahres“ ausgezeichnet. Vor den Parlamentswahlen in Macao im September 2021 wurde Sulu Sou vom Obersten Gerichtshof Macaos als nicht loyal genug bezeichnet, um an den Parlamentswahlen teilnehmen zu können. Neben ihm wurden mit und zwei weitere langjährige Parlamentarier von der Teilnahme an der Wahl ausgeschlossen. Alle drei verloren daraufhin ihren Sitz im Parlament. (de)

He stated that his goal was to have direct elections for all seats of the assembly. In 2018 he held a protest near Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui's house, deemed illegal by the government. On 4 December, of his colleagues 28 out of 33 voted to suspend Sou from the assembly so he could be prosecuted under Macau law. In May 2018 he was declared guilty and ordered to pay a fine of 40,800 patacas (US$5,000). He expressed his intention to run for office again after the fine. In 2021 he filed a request for the Macau government to provide information in English. The Macau Daily Times ranked Sou as "Person of the Year" in 2017. By September 2021 the courts ruled he was not sufficiently loyal to the government and so was unable to keep his seat in the assembly. (en)
