The Syntermitinae is a neotropical subfamily of mandibulate nasute termites in the family Termitidae which contains 18 genera and 101 species. Many members of this subfamily retain a soldier caste with a developed forecoxa process adapted for chemical defense, similarly to the fontanellar nasus of true nasute termites. However unlike true nasutes, the mandibles are often highly developed resulting in the soldiers being unable to expel their chemical weaponry at a distance, relying instead on physical contact. Some genera, such as Syntermes, have completely lost their nasus. Both Nasutitermitinae and Syntermitinae are not closely related, with Syntermitinae being more closely related to the Amitermes-group Termitinae.
