- Het Ware getuigenis, ook wel Getuigenis van de Waarheid is een gnostisch geschrift, dat in een Koptische vertaling onderdeel was van de vondst van de Nag Hammadigeschriften in 1945. Er moet een oorspronkelijk Griekse tekst zijn geweest, maar daar is nooit iets van gevonden. Het is mogelijk dat het werk een titel had. Het manuscript is echter in slechte staat gevonden. Er zijn veel lacunes en een aantal pagina's ontbreekt geheel. De huidige titel is ontleend aan een passage in het geschrift. Dit is derhalve het ware getuigenis: Als de mens zichzelf kent en God die de waarheid te boven gaat, zal hij gered worden en bekranst met de onvergankelijke krans. De oorspronkelijke Griekse tekst moet rond 200 zijn ontstaan. (nl)

Autor uważa się za chrześcijanina i cytuje apokryfy oraz Stary i Nowy Testament. Przekonuje do radykalnej ascezy i z tej pozycji krytykuje postawę chrześcijan. (pl)

- El Testimonio de la Verdad es el tercer manuscrito del Códex IX de la Biblioteca de Nag Hammadi. La copia manuscrita de los códices de Nag Hammadi, descubierta en 1945 se encuentra en muy mal estado y está demasiado fragmentada, a veces, para su comprensión. El texto es diferente a otros textos cristianos, como en no representar al martirio como algo que deba ser glorificado: Los tontos, creyendo en su corazón que si confiesan "Somos cristianos" sólo de palabra, pero no con poder, mientras se entregan a la muerte, sin saber a dónde van o quién es Cristo, pensando que van a vivir, están en un error, sólo apresuran a los principados y autoridades...Pero cuando se "perfeccionan" con la muerte (de un mártir), este es el pensamiento que tienen: "Si nos entregamos nosotros mismos a la muerte en Su Nombre seremos salvados". Estas cuestiones no se resuelven de esta manera. Pero como la acción de las estrellas errantes, dicen que han "completado" su inútil "curso",... Pero [...] se han entregado a sí mismos ... Habla del bautismo como que es algo más que lo que se ve, salpicar con un poco de agua; sino que significa renunciar al mundo mediante la retirada de la vida económica, marital y social: Hay algunos que, al entrar en la fe, [reciben] el bautismo en el suelo y lo tienen como una esperanza de salvación...Pero el bautismo de la verdad es algo más, lo es por la renuncia al mundo donde se encuentra. El Testimonio de la Verdad, también cuenta la historia del Jardín del Edén desde el punto de vista de la serpiente. La serpiente, reconocida desde hace tiempo en la literatura gnóstica como el principio de la sabiduría divina, convence a Adán y Eva para que participen del conocimiento, mientras que "el Señor" les amenaza con la muerte, tratando celosamente de evitar que alcancen el conocimiento, y expulsándolos del Paraíso cuando lo consiguen. The text is different from many other Christian texts in that it does not portray martyrdom as something to be glorified: The foolish, thinking in their heart that if they confess "We are Christians," in word only but not with power, while giving themselves over to a human death, not knowing where they are going or who Christ is, thinking that they will live while they are really in error, hasten toward the principalities and the authorities. and But when they are "perfected" with a (martyr's) death, this is the thought that they have within them: "If we deliver ourselves over to death for the sake of the Name we will be saved." These matters are not settled in this way. But through the agency of the wandering stars they say they have "completed" their futile "course", and [...] say, [...]. But these [...] they have delivered themselves ... Testimony of Truth, also tells the story of the Garden of Eden from the viewpoint of the serpent. Here the serpent, long known to appear in Gnostic literature as the principle of divine wisdom, convinces Adam and Eve to partake of knowledge while "the Lord" threatens them with death, trying jealously to prevent them from attaining knowledge, and expelling them from Paradise when they achieve it.
