* A l'Antic Testament, el nomenament d'algú per a qualsevol d'aquestes funcions es realitzava ungint-lo amb oli sobre el cap. El mot "Messies", que significa 'l'ungit', queda associat amb el concepte de les tres funcions. Si bé la funció de rei és la més habitualment associada amb el Messies, el paper de Jesús com a sacerdot és també prominent al Nou Testament, sent més plenament explicat als capítols 7 a 10 de l'epístola als Hebreus. - The threefold office (Latin: munus triplex) of Jesus Christ is a Christian doctrine based upon the teachings of the Old Testament of which Christians hold different views. In the Old Testament, the appointment of someone to any of these three positions could be sanctioned by anointing him by pouring oil over his head. Thus the term messiah, meaning "anointed one", is associated with the concept of the threefold office. While the office of king is that most closely associated with the Messiah, the role of Jesus as priest, which involves intercession before God, is also prominent in the New Testament, being most fully explained in chapters 7 to 10 of the Book of Hebrews. - Il termine uffici di Cristo è una categoria della cristologia cristiana che descrive le funzioni, i compiti, i servigi, che Gesù di Nazareth, secondo la Bibbia, è venuto ad assolvere (ed assolve tuttora) nel mondo, in particolare per coloro che appartengono alla Sua Chiesa. La Cristologia si riferisce in modo particolare ai tre uffici principali di Cristo, detti anche il triplice ufficio di Cristo:
* L'ufficio profetico (la funzione di Profeta e di Maestro)
* L'ufficio sacerdotale (la funzione di Sacerdote)
* L'ufficio regale (la funzione di Re e di Medico) Si potrebbe dire che Gesù Cristo (secondo la Bibbia) è il Profeta per eccellenza, il Sacerdote per eccellenza ed il Re per eccellenza, unico e irripetibile. In questa forma, la descrizione degli uffici di Cristo è stata delineata la prima volta da Eusebio di Cesarea e poi, più dettagliatamente, da Giovanni Calvino. Per questo, la dottrina degli uffici di Cristo è particolarmente rilevante per la teologia della tradizione calvinista. Gli stessi uffici e la capacità di compierli sono stati affidati da Gesù agli Apostoli e alla Chiesa fondata su Pietro, affidando loro il proprio Spirito e i propri sacramenti. (it)
