Tinea barbae is a fungal infection of the hair. Tinea barbae is due to a dermatophytic infection around the bearded area of men. Generally, the infection occurs as a follicular inflammation, or as a cutaneous granulomatous lesion, i.e. a chronic inflammatory reaction. It is one of the causes of folliculitis. It is most common among agricultural workers, as the transmission is more common from animal-to-human than human-to-human. The most common causes are Trichophyton mentagrophytes and T. verrucosum.

Eine Schwellung der regionären Lymphknoten und Fieber kann ebenfalls auftreten. Die Behandlung erfolgt meist lokal und systemisch mit Antimykotika. Eine komplette Rasur ist zu empfehlen. Bei Nichtbehandlung heilt die Erkrankung meist auch spontan aus, allerdings unter Bildung haarloser Narben. (de)

Otra forma de inicio es por traumatismos (rasurado), haciendo que las esporas entren más fácilmente y tengan una mayor probabilidad de ser reconocidas por el sistema inmune. Por lo general, el cuadro se asocia con impétigo bacteriano, y el paciente puede presentar adenopatías. Entre los diferenciales encontramos: Alopecia areata, Tricotilomanía, foliculitis bacteriana, carbunco, dermatitis seborréica, acné (pustuloso o con globata), , dermatitis de contacto e impétigo. Odmiana ta atakuje ujścia mieszków włosowych, zakażenie u dzieci dotyczy tylko owłosionej skóry głowy, u dorosłych skóry brody i głowy. Przebieg grzybicy jest zazwyczaj ostry, objawia się głębokimi naciekami guzowatymi o nierównej powierzchni, ale wyraźnie odgraniczonymi od otoczenia. Guzy zapalne wykazują skłonność do skupiania się i zlewania. Z ujść mieszków włosowych podczas zakażenia wydobywa się treść ropna, która zasycha w strupy. Włos daje się łatwo usunąć. Niekiedy może nastąpić samowyleczenie wskutek wypadania włosów zakażonych. Ten rodzaj grzybicy ustępuje bez bliznowacenia i trwałego wyłysienia. (pl)
