Il suo nome si deve alla piazza omonima in cui si trova, toponimo a sua volta derivante dal nome del politico spagnolo Juan Fernández de Velasco che nel XVII secolo governò il Ducato di Milano. Per il suo interesse storico e artistico nel 2011 l'edificio fa parte dei beni architettonici sottoposti a vincolo dalla Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali. (it)

- De Velascatoren (Italiaans: La Torre velasca) is een 106 meter hoge wolkenkrabber in de Italiaanse stad Milaan. Op de begane grond en de eerste verdieping zijn winkels gevestigd. De 17 verdiepingen daarboven worden gebruikt als kantoor. De bovenste zes zijn breder en worden gebruikt als appartementen. De bouw duurde van 1956 tot 1958. Het ontwerp is uitgevoerd door een groep architecten die zich de noemde. Zij lieten zich inspireren door een van de torens van het Castello Sforzesco dat in de omgeving te vinden is. (nl)

Das vom Büro BBPR entworfene Gebäude steht an der Piazza Velasca, benannt nach Juan Fernández de Velasco, einem spanischen Gouverneur des Herzogtums Mailand im 17. Jahrhundert. Die Planungen des Hochhauses für das 1943 durch alliierte Bombardements verwüstete Zentrum Mailands begannen 1950, die Realisierung des umstrittenen Baus gelang jedoch erst 1956–1957. Die Bauzeit betrug 292 Tage, acht weniger als vertraglich vorgesehen. 2011 stellte die Soprintendenza per i Beni Culturali das Hochhaus unter Denkmalschutz.
