Ulrich Steinhilper (14 September 1918 – 20 October 2009) was a World War II Luftwaffe fighter ace who made numerous attempts to escape after he was shot down and captured. As a post-war IBM typewriter salesman, he was an early proponent of word processing, considered by some to have either coined the phrase or even originated the concept.

Abateu 5 aeronaves inimigas, o que fez dele um ás da aviação. Tornou-se famoso por tentar escapar várias vezes depois de ter sido capturado pelos aliados. Sobreviveu à guerra, trabalhou para a IBM. (pt) Ulrich Steinhilper (* 14. September 1918 in Stuttgart; † 20. Oktober 2009) war ein deutscher Autor und der Erfinder der elektronischen Textverarbeitung. Der in Stuttgart geborene Sohn eines Lehrerehepaars wuchs in einem kleinen Dorf auf der Schwäbischen Alb auf. Als 17-Jähriger bewarb er sich 1936 als Pilot bei der Luftwaffe und wurde angenommen. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde er 1940 abgeschossen, gefangen genommen und als Kriegsgefangener nach Kanada gebracht. 1946 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück und arbeitete zunächst als Fahrer bei der US Army. 1953 kam er zu IBM-Deutschland und wurde dort Verkäufer für .
