Fauna i flora wyspy są niezwykle zróżnicowane. Pomorski krajobraz wybrzeża z plażami, kąpieliskami i wioskami jest od ponad 170 lat jest jednym z ważniejszych miejsc wypoczynku w Niemczech. | - Der Naturpark Insel Usedom umfasst den deutschen Teil der Insel Usedom im Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bis zur polnischen Grenze. Zum Naturpark gehören auch das Achterwasser, der Peenestrom, der Nordteil des Stettiner Haffs, die Flachwasserbereiche der Ostsee an der Peenemündung, sowie ein schmaler Streifen Festland am Westufer des Peenestroms vom Seebad Lubmin bis zum Lassaner Winkel mit der Hafenstadt Lassan. Am Peenemünder Haken im Norden der Insel wurde schon 1925 das älteste Naturschutzgebiet Pommerns ausgewiesen. 1938 folgte der Zerninsee bei Swinemünde. Zwischen 1957 und 1971 wurden weitere Gebiete unter Naturschutz gestellt (z. B. Gothensee, Streckelsberg), deren Fläche etwa 2000 Hektar umfasste. Von 1990 bis 1998 wurden mehrere wertvolle Landschaftsteile als Naturschutzgebiete gesichert; die Gesamtfläche aller Naturschutzgebiete beträgt heute knapp 5500 Hektar. Große Teile der Insel Usedom wurden bereits 1966 zum Landschaftsschutzgebiet erklärt. 1993 wurde es auf die Fläche des heutigen Naturparks ausgedehnt. Zum Naturpark im Sinne einer großflächigen Kulturlandschaft wurde die Region im Dezember 1999 offiziell erklärt. Ein Informationszentrum, das Ruth-und-Klaus-Bahlsen-Haus, mit Ausstellungsräumen, dem Sitz der Naturpark-Verwaltung und der Stadtinformation, befindet sich im historischen Bahnhofsgebäude an der Bäderstraße von Usedom (Stadt). Der Bau wurde im Rahmen eines INTERREG-Projektes gefördert und im Jahr 2005 fertiggestellt. Die Gesamtfläche des Naturparkes umfasst 632 km². Ca. 25 % dieser Fläche sind bewaldet, fast 50 % sind Gewässer, der Restfläche sind landwirtschaftliche Flächen und Siedlungen. Die einst ausgedehnten Niedermoore sind heute fast vollständig entwässert und werden landwirtschaftlich genutzt. Ein besonderes Merkmal des Naturparks ist die hohe Vielfalt von Lebensräumen auf engem Raum. So findet man hier Ostseestrand und Binnenküste, Steilküsten und Dünen, Seen und Moore, Erlenbrüche, Dünenkiefern- und Buchenwälder, Wiesen und Äcker, kleine Dörfer und Seebäder. Die Insel Usedom gehört zu den vogelreichsten Gebieten in Deutschland. Im Naturpark brüten Seeadler, Weißstorch, Kranich und Graureiher. Die eutrophen Flachseen wie der Gothen- und der Schmollensee sind für die Vögel ideale Rast- und Brutplätze. Der Naturpark ist gut über die Bundesstraße 110 von Anklam oder über die Bundesstraße 111 von Wolgast und mit der Usedomer Bäderbahn zu erreichen. Am Rand des Naturparkes findet man die Gemeinde Heringsdorf mit den Ortsteilen Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf und Bansin. (de)
- The Usedom Island Nature Park (German: Naturpark Insel Usedom) comprises the German part of the island of Usedom in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. In addition to the island itself, the park covers the waterbody between the island and the mainland as well as small strips of mainland in the northwest and west near the seaside resorts of Lubmin and the town of Lassan. Even in East German days several parts of Usedom had been declared nature reserves, and they were gradually expanded. It was designated a protected area in 1966 and, in 1993, expanded to the area of the present-day nature park. In December 1999 the entire region was officially designated a nature park in the sense of being a large-scale cultural landscape. An information centre, the Ruth and Klaus Bahlsen House, with exhibition rooms, maps and leaflets, is located in the historic station building on the Bäderstraße from Usedom. The building was promoted as part of an INTERREG project and completed in 2005. The park is bounded by the Baltic Sea on the Bay of Greifswald (Greifswalder Bodden), the Peenestrom river, the Achterwasser lagoon and the Oder Lagoon (Stettiner Haff). The total area of the park is 632 square kilometres (244 sq mi). Roughly 30% of this area is covered by forest, about 50% by lakes and the bay, 15% is moorland and the remaining area is a cultural landscape. A special feature of the nature park is the great diversity of landscapes within a small area. These include beach and littoral, lakes and marshes, dunes, pine and beech forests mixed with small villages and fields. The island of Usedom is one of the richest bird areas in Germany. Osprey, white stork, crane and heron all breed in the nature reserve. The eutrophic and shallow lakes, such as the Gothensee and Schmollensee are ideal for bird roosting and nesting sites. The park is easily accessed on the from Anklam or the B 111 from Wolgast or by rail on the Usedomer Bäderbahn. At the edge of the park is the municipality of Heringsdorf with its villages of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin. (en)
