In 71 v.Chr. trokken zij met Ariovistus de Rijn over en vestigden zich in het huidige gebied rond Worms.De Romeinen noemden deze stad civitas Vangionum en tot in de zestiende eeuw noemden de inwoners van Worms zich nog Vangionen. - Els vangíons o vangíones (en llatí Vangiones, en grec antic Οὐαγγίονες) eren un poble germànic esmentat per Juli Cèsar. Cèsar diu que hi havia vangíons a l'exèrcit d'Ariovist al que va derrotar, però la seva expressió sembla indicar que hi havia germànics establerts a la Gàl·lia. El territori dels vangíons tenia per capital Borbetomagus (Worms) i abans havia pertanyut als mediomàtrics. (ca)

Relata César que había vangíones en el ejército de Ariovisto al que él derrotó, pero su expresión quiere decir que había germanos establecidos en la Galia. Plinio y Tácito también dicen que son germanos establecidos a la izquierda del Rin. Los vangíones eran vecinos de los németes. (es)

- The Vangiones appear first in history as an ancient Germanic tribe of unknown provenance. They threw in their lot with Ariovistus in his bid of 58 BC to invade Gaul through the Doubs river valley and lost to Julius Caesar in a battle probably near Belfort. After some Celts evacuated the region in fear of the Suebi, the Vangiones, who had made a Roman peace, were allowed to settle among the Mediomatrici in northern Alsace. - Les Vangions (en latin Vangiones) sont des Germains cités pour la première fois dans les Commentaires sur la Guerre des Gaules de Jules César. Originellement établis au centre des champs Décumates, ils se joignent vers 65 av. J.-C. à la migration des Suèves. Après la défaite de ces derniers face à Jules César, les Vangions s'établissent au confluent du Rhin et du Main (autour de l'actuelle ville de Mayence). Drusus, dans le cadre de la Romanisation et de l'institution du limes, construit deux castrum en territoire vangion : Mogontiacum (actuelle ville de Mayence) et Augusta Vangionum (actuelle ville de Worms citée dans la légende de Martin de Tours). L'ethnonyme de ce peuple subsiste dans le toponyme Wonnegau. (fr)
