| - Vikas Swarup (* 1963 in Allahabad) ist ein indischer Diplomat und Schriftsteller. Er schrieb den Bestseller Q and A, was für questions and answers (Fragen und Antworten) steht und den deutschen Titel Rupien! Rupien! trägt. Hierbei handelt es sich um einen Roman über einen armen indischen Kellner, der in einer Quizshow eine Milliarde Rupien gewinnt und dann auf Grund des Verdachts auf Betrug im Gefängnis landet. Zu seinem Buch wurde Swarup nach eigener Aussage durch einen Besuch einer der Lernstationen des Bildungsprojektes Hole in the Wall inspiriert. Das Buch wurde 2005 veröffentlicht, ist inzwischen in fast 30 Sprachen übersetzt und wurde unter dem Titel Slumdog Millionär (2008) verfilmt. Der Film wurde mit insgesamt acht Oscars ausgezeichnet. He retired from the Indian Foreign Service as the Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs, India on 30 June 2021 and has previously served as High Commissioner of India in Canada and has been the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
