Vinicio Capossela (born 14 December 1965) is an Italian singer-songwriter, poet and novelist. Capossela is renowned for the highly original and poetic lyrics of his songs. Many of them draw from traditions of Italian folk music, especially those of his parents' native Irpinia, part of the Campania province. He also published translations of original songs by other authors, including Bob Dylan (La nave sta arrivando), Vladimir Vysotsky (Il pugile sentimentale) and Markos Vamvakaris (Contratto per Karelias).

Narodil se italským rodičům v německém Hannoveru, ale brzy se odstěhovali do italského regionu Emilia-Romagna. Počínaje rokem 1987 žije v Miláně. Do značné míry je inspirován americkým hudebníkem Tomem Waitsem, nahrál i několik coververzí jeho písní. Rovněž byl označován za spojovací most mezi Paolem Contem a Waitsem. Capossella gebruikt in zijn muziek verschillende invloeden, uit onder meer blues, opera, jazz, de avant-garde en Italiaanse folkmuziek. Zijn werk is verder onder meer beïnvloed door de Amerikaanse muzikant Tom Waits en door de Duits-Amerikaanse componist Kurt Weill. De teksten die Capossela gebruikt in zijn songs zijn gebaseerd op literaire teksten van onder meer John Fante, Geoffrey Chaucer, Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Oscar Wilde en Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
