Vivienne is a fictional character from BioWare's Dragon Age franchise, first appearing as a party member in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Within the series, she is the official enchanter to the Imperial Court of the Orlesian Empire who achieved her position through political savvy. She presents herself to the Inquisition as a representative of the Orlesian Court and a self-styled leader among the mage community of Thedas, the world setting of the Dragon Age series, who supports the status quo of cloistering magic users into supervised training facilities known as the Circles of Magi. The character was featured prominently in promotional material and advertisements released by Bioware's parent company EA leading up to the release of Inquisition. She is voiced by British actress Indira Varma.

quote
  • "Conquer everything while looking fabulous — such is the way of Vivienne. Ever poised and composed, Madame de Fer is never out of her element. What little armor she allows herself is cleverly hidden, and save for the rolled edges of her breast plate, there’s little Enchanter to the Imperial Court evidence of the hard steel beneath. The cuirass is wrapped in linen overlaid with strips of silk, bringing the elegance of a ball gown to the battlefield. Pearls and white gold cover her from head to toe, and to see her out in the wild one can’t help but feel that the trees are underdressed." (en)
  • "She's a supposed "ice queen," an untouchable woman who's too good for the plebes around her. She says "my dear" like some women say "bless her heart," and her words cut sharper than any spell. Any flirtation attempts result in her putting you down, emphasizing her own unattainability." (en)
  • "Vivienne is affiliated with many groups but few of them seem to have contributed anything to who she’s become. She’s the only playable black woman seen in the entire trilogy of games so far, and she is cultureless, rootless, and quintessentially raceless.." (en)
