| - El Guardián del Agua es una criatura ficticia perteneciente al legendarium del escritor británico J. R. R. Tolkien, que aparece en su novela El Señor de los Anillos, concretamente en el primer volumen, La Comunidad del Anillo. Vive al acecho, en un lago junto a las puertas de Moria creado cuando los enanos represaron el río Sirannon; y Balin lo nombra más de veinte años antes del episodio en el que la Comunidad del Anillo llega a las puertas de Moria. Tolkien no narró los orígenes de esta criatura en sus obras, ni la describió en detalle, pero algunos autores la han descrito como un gran calamar o incluso el legendario kraken de la mitología nórdica. Compare ne Il Signore degli Anelli, dove non viene spiegato cosa sia la creatura denominata Osservatore; esso (o essi, poiché i suoi "tentacoli" potrebbero appartenere ad un insieme di creature, sebbene Gandalf sostenga che tutti fossero mossi da un unico intento) dimora nelle acque del Sirannon, il Rivo del Cancello, innanzi alle Mura ed al Cancello di Moria, ad occidente di Moria stesso. Żył w jeziorze położonym u stóp wejścia do Khazad-dûm, które powstało po zatamowaniu Sirannonu. Mógł być jednym ze stworzeń, które przetrwały do końca Trzeciej Ery. Zmusił Drużynę Pierścienia do przejścia przez Khazad-dûm, blokując Zachodnią Bramę. Ori w Księdze Mazarbul zanotował, że Óin został wciągnięty do wody przez Czatownika. (pl)
- De Wachter in het Water is een fictief monster uit de roman In de Ban van de Ring van J.R.R. Tolkien, dat in het meer bij de westpoort van Moria huisde. Het reisgezelschap van de Ring wordt door de Wachter in het Water aangevallen als de poort van Moria net geopend is. De wachter vernietigt de deuren en de bomen die aan weerszijden groeien, waardoor een terugweg voor het reisgezelschap onmogelijk is en de tocht door Moria onontkoombaar. De Wachter in het Water lijkt iets weg te hebben van een reuzeninktvis of kraken, met zeker een twintigtal tentakels. (nl)
