The Wilton culture is the name given by archaeologists to an archaeological culture which was common to parts of south and east Africa around six thousand years ago, during the Stone Age period. The culture is characterized by a greater number of tool types, distinguishing it from its predecessors. It was first described by John Hewitt after he excavated with the collaboration of C. W. Wilmot a cave on the farm Wilton.

| - La Cultura Wilton és un poble del paleolític que rep el seu nom del llogarret de Wilton, a l'actual Sud-àfrica, on es van trobar les primeres restes d'aquesta cultura. Als orígens es tractava d'un grup de caçadors-recol·lectors especialistes en l'ús de l'arc que van expandir-se pel sud i el centre del continent africà des del 8000 aC fins al 1000 aC, quan van ser absorbits pels bantus. Enterraven els seus morts en posició fetal, tradició que van heretar els boiximans, possibles descendents d'aquesta cultura i els honoraven a través de l'art pintat en façanes de coves i pedres mortuòries. - El Wiltoniense es una facies cultural que fue identificada por primera vez en Wilton, una aldea de la provincia Oriental del Cabo (Sudáfrica), y poco después en otra aldea de Mashonalandia Oriental (Zimbabue). Por tanto, se sabe que las gentes wiltonienses se extendieron por África central y Austral desde hace unos 8000 años hasta la llegada de los bantúes (poco antes del primer milenio antes de nuestra era), sobreviviendo incluso en zona marginales hasta el siglo XIII de nuestra era (aunque ya muy transformada). Inicialmente, podría decirse que era el equivalente al Mesolítico europeo, aunque, propiamente, pertenece al final de la Edad de Piedra Tardía africana, es decir la denominada Late Stone Age. (es)

Zespół zjawisk kulturowych utożsamianych z omawianą kulturą obejmował swym zasięgiem obszary południowej i środkowej Afryki - jaskinia w RPA. Rozwój owej jednostki kulturowej wyznaczają daty od ok. 7 do ok. 2 tys. lat temu. Inwentarz kamienny w owej kulturze reprezentowany jest przez krótkie drapacze oraz segmenty, zbrojniki geometryczne.
