Women have had the right to vote in Victoria, Australia since 1908 and the right to stand as a candidate for the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 1923. Judy Maddigan became the first female Speaker in 2003. Since then, two other women, Jenny Lindell and Christine Fyffe, have served as Speaker.
