The World Romani Congress is a series of forums for discussion of issues relating to Roma people around the world. As of 2020, there have been ten World Romani Congresses. Among the chief goals of these congresses have been the standardization of the Romani language, improvements in civil rights and education, preservation of the Roma culture, reparations from World War II, and international recognition of the Roma as a national minority of Indian native origin.

- Il Congresso mondiale dei rom è rappresentato da una serie di forum di discussione delle questioni relative ai rom di tutto il mondo. Finora ci sono stati nove congressi mondiali romanì. Tra gli obiettivi principali di questi congressi ci sono stati la standardizzazione della lingua romanì, i miglioramenti dei diritti civili e dell'istruzione, la conservazione della cultura rom, le riparazioni dalla seconda guerra mondiale e il riconoscimento internazionale dei rom come minoranza nazionale di origine nativa indiana. - Het Internationaal Romani Congres is een serie van congressen voor discussie onder Roma wereldwijd. De belangrijkste doelen van de congressen waren het bereiken van een standaardisatie van het Romani als taal, verbeteringen in burgerrechten en onderwijs, behoud van de Roma-cultuur, rechtsherstel van het leed uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog en internationale erkenning van de Roma als een nationale minderheid van Indiase komaf. Aan het eerste congres op 8 april 1971 in Londen namen 23 vertegenwoordigers uit de volgende 9 landen deel: Tsjecho-Slowakije, Finland, Frankrijk, Groot-Brittannië, Hongarije, Ierland, Spanje en Joegoslavië. Naar het zevende congres in 2008 in Zagreb kwamen inmiddels 300 gedelegeerden uit 28 verschillende landen. Tijdens het eerste congres werd de in 1933 ontworpen vlag van de Roma officieel erkend en werd het lied Djelem, djelem uitgeroepen tot volkslied van de Roma. De datum 8 april werd daarom uitgeroepen tot de internationale Romadag. Tijdens het tweede congres in 1978 werd de Internationale Romani Unie opgericht. (nl)
