- Zuhayr ibn Qays al-Balawī (fallecido en 688) fue un compañero del profeta islámico Mahoma y un comandante árabe que luchó al servicio de los califas califato Rashidun, Omeya y Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr. Desempeñó un papel clave en las primeras conquistas musulmanas de Egipto, Barca (Cirenaica) e Ifriqiya. Cuando esta última provincia cayó ante una alianza bizantino-bereber en 682, Zuhayr recibió el mando del ejército para restaurar el dominio árabe. Durante esa campaña, retomó temporalmente Kairuán, la capital de los árabes en Ifriqiya, y mató al jefe bereber Kusaila, pero fue asesinado por los invasores bizantinos en su camino de regreso a Barca. - Zuhayr ibn Qays al-Balawī (Arabic: زهير بن قيس البلوي) (died 688) was a companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and an Arab commander who fought in the service of the Rashidun, Umayyad and Zubayrid caliphs. He played a key role in the early Muslim conquests of Egypt, Barqa (Cyrenaica) and Ifriqiya. When the latter province fell to a Byzantine–Berber alliance in 682, Zuhayr was given command of the army to restore Arab rule. During that campaign, he temporarily retook Kairouan, the Arabs' capital in Ifriqiya, and killed the Berber chief Kasila, but was slain by Byzantine raiders on his way back to Barqa. (en)
