Jai Andhra movement is a 1972 political movement in support for the creation of Andhra state in the light of injustices felt by the people of the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema Regions. This was after the HC and SC upheld the Mulki rules in existence at the time. This disenfranchised a vast majority of the population of the state from obtaining jobs in their own state capital. In ensuing protests and police firing eight people were killed. Prominent leaders from Coastal Andhra: Tenneti Viswanadham, Raja Sagi Suryanarayana Raju, Gouthu Latchanna, Jupudi Yegnanarayana, N. Srinivasulu Reddy, B. V. Subba Reddy, Kakani Venkataratnam, Vasantha Nageswara Rao, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Nissankararao Ventakaratnam, prominent student leaders like K.Sreedhar Rao , Haribabu etc., from Andhra University, and

En su bandera verde se dibujó el mapa de los 12 distritos donde se hablan y escriben idiomas diferentes al télugu. El movimiento alcanzó su mayor apogeo en los primeros días de enero de 1973, cuando la cuestión de la división del estado fue el tema central del país.El 18 de enero de 1973 la presidenta Indira Gandhi estableció el estado de sitio en la región. Unos 600 andhras fueron asesinados, principalmente por la policía federal.Gradualmente la cuestión entró en letargo. En 2006 comenzó a revivir este movimiento.En la actualidad subsiste la reclamación de ambos estados. (es)
