- Celitas o alexianos es el nombre de una congregación de religiosos hospitalarios, que hoy tienen casas en Alemania y en los Estados Unidos. Su fundador se llamaba y por esta razón se conocen en Italia bajo el nombre de medaños. Siguen la regla de San Agustín. Su instituto fue aprobado por Pío II, hacia el año 1460 más existían hacía ya más de un siglo. Se ocupan en cuidar a los enfermos y con especialidad a los que son atacados de enfermedades contagiosas tales como la peste. Vigilan y sirven a los dementes, entierran los muertos, etc. Tienen mucha relación con los hermanos de la caridad. (es)

Au fil des temps, ils créèrent des hospices pour y soigner les pestiférés, les indigents et plus tard les aliénés légers. - Алексиане (или целлиты) (лат. Congregatio Fratrum Cellitarum seu Alexianorum) — католический орден. Возник в начале XIV века на территории современной Бельгии во времена тяжёлых эпидемий чумы и изначально назывался cellites (целлиты) от cella (келья). Несколько мирян собралось под предводительством Тобиаса (фамилия не известна) для организации помощи пострадавшим от эпидемии. Постепенно движение алексиан распространилось на другие европейские страны, их деятельность последовательно была одобрена Григорием XI (1377 год), Бонифацием IX (1394 год) и Евгением IV (1431 год). С 1459 года вступающие в орден произносили обеты, а в 1472 году папа Сикст IV даровал ордену устав св. Августина. С этого времени алексиане носят чёрное монашеское одеяние с кожаным поясом.
