Alkali sulfur liquid battery (SLIQ) is a liquid battery which consists of only one rechargeable liquid and a technology which can be used for grid storage. This is an interesting concept due to the simplicity, low cost, durability, thermal stability (no thermal runaway), low carbon foot print, eliminating the need of rare earth minerals for storage and its applicability to transportation systems. Speciality of this battery is the fact that the internal electrolytes and the catholyte gets refreshed continuously making the life time very long. This storage technology has a low carbon footprint per kWh of energy storage medium and the ultimate objective of the inventors is to bring the carbon footprint further down. | - Alkali sulfur liquid battery (SLIQ) is a liquid battery which consists of only one rechargeable liquid and a technology which can be used for grid storage. Department of Business Energy And Industrial Strategy of UK (BEIS) has identified a company which has successfully installed such a prototype in year 2013. A BEIS Report describes this technology as a novel flow battery technology that is low-cost, long lasting and easily scalable. Can be used for very long term storage economically and sustainably.
