De eerste ontmoeting van de "Association of Medical Officers of American Institutions for Idiotic and Feebleminded Persons" werd op de in gehouden. De organisatie veranderde later zijn naam naar "American Association on Mental Deficiency" en daarna naar "American Association on Mental Retardation".
