Saint Apollonius the Apologist or Saint Apollonius of Rome (died 21 April 185) was a 2nd-century Christian martyr and apologist (not to be confused with Apollinaris Claudius, another contemporary apologist) who was martyred in 185 under the Emperor Commodus (161-192).

Perennis ließ Apollonius daraufhin verhören, um ihn zum Abfall vom Christentum zu bewegen, woraufhin Apollonius eine Verteidigungsrede vor dem Römischen Senat hielt, die vom Heiligen Hieronymus und in den Märtyrerakten des Apollonius zwar hoch gelobt wird, den Senat aber dennoch nicht davon abhielt, die Todesstrafe gegen ihn zu beschließen. Apollonius wurde daraufhin enthauptet. (de)
