The Argentine Constitutional Reforms of 1949 were approved during Juan Domingo Perón's government.This new constitution was a major revision of the Constitution of Argentina. Its goal was to modernize and adapt the text to the twentieth century's concepts of democracy, with a bill of social rights, including better working conditions for the working class, right to education, etc. It also allowed for the indefinite reelection of the president. It was suppressed by the military and civilian uprising known as Revolución Libertadora.

La reforma se incluye dentro de la corriente jurídica mundial del constitucionalismo social y entre sus principales normas incorporó los derechos humanos de segunda generación (laborales y sociales), la igualdad jurídica del hombre y la mujer, los derechos de la niñez y la ancianidad, la autonomía universitaria, la función social de la propiedad, la elección directa del presidente y el vicepresidente y la posibilidad de su reelección. Un sector de la oposición interpretó que la mayoría con que debía sancionarse la ley declarando la necesidad de reformar la Constitución debía calcularse sobre la totalidad de los miembros del Congreso. El oficialismo sostuvo que debía calcularse sobre los miembros presentes, de la misma forma en que se sancionan las leyes y tal cual como se había hecho en la reforma constitucional argentina de 1866. Las reformas estuvieron en vigencia hasta el 27 de abril de 1956, cuando fue abolida por "proclama" del dictador Pedro Eugenio Aramburu, en la segunda etapa de la dictadura cívico-militar autodenominada Revolución Libertadora que había derrocado todos los poderes constitucionales el 16 de septiembre de 1955, estableciéndose una nueva pirámide jurídica que colocó como norma suprema a "los fines de la revolución", y subordinada a los mismos, la Constitución Argentina de 1853 con sus reformas de 1860, 1866 y 1898.
