| - Les incendies du Mercredi des Cendres constituent une catastrophe naturelle survenue dans le sud-est de l'Australie le 16 février 1983. En douze heures, plus de 180 incendies nourris par des vents atteignant jusqu'à 110 km/h ont causé des dégâts dans les États de Victoria et de l'Australie-Méridionale. C'est la combinaison de plusieurs années de graves sécheresses de 1979 à 1983 et des conditions météorologiques extrêmes qui ont engendré la pire journée d'incendie qu'ait connue l'Australie en un siècle. Ces incendies qui ont fait 75 morts ont été la deuxième catastrophe de feu de brousse la plus meurtrière de l'histoire australienne - seuls les feux de brousse de Victoria de 2009 ont fait plus de victimes. Within twelve hours, more than 180 fires fanned by hot winds of up to 110 km/h (68 mph) caused widespread destruction across the states of Victoria and South Australia. Years of severe drought and extreme weather combined to create one of Australia's worst fire days in a century. The fires were the deadliest bushfire in Australian history until the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. (en)
- Ash Wednesday (dosłownie „środa popielcowa”) – klęska żywiołowa, która miała miejsce w południowo-wschodniej Australii 16 lutego 1983. W ciągu 12 godzin wybuchło wówczas ponad 180 pożarów, które napędzane wiatrami o szybkości dochodzącej do 100 km/h spaliły ponad 4 tys. kilometrów kwadratowych w czasie tylko jednego dnia. Do czasu pożarów w 2009 była to najtragiczniejsza klęska żywiołowa w dziejach Australii. W wyniku pożarów zginęło wówczas 75 osób, w tym 17 strażaków. Ash Wednesday fires) — серия лесных пожаров, произошедших в юго-восточной Австралии 16 февраля 1983 года (название связано с тем, что на этот день пришлась Пепельная среда). Среда Пепла стала одним из наиболее разрушительных событий в истории Австралии. Более 3 700 зданий было уничтожено в этот день и 2 545 человек потеряли свои дома.
