Communicative behaviors is defined as a psychological construct which influences individual differences in the expression of feelings, needs, and thoughts as a substitute for more direct and open communication. Specifically, it refers to people's tendency to express feelings, needs, and thoughts by means of indirect messages and behavioral impacts. It can be argued that much of our communication is, in fact, non-verbal.

- Communicative behaviors is defined as a psychological construct which influences individual differences in the expression of feelings, needs, and thoughts as a substitute for more direct and open communication. Specifically, it refers to people's tendency to express feelings, needs, and thoughts by means of indirect messages and behavioral impacts. It can be argued that much of our communication is, in fact, non-verbal. Any behavior (or its absence when one is expected) may be judged as communicative if it has the intent to convey a message. For example, an expressive hairstyle, a show of a certain emotion, or simply doing (or not doing) the dishes all can be means by which people may convey messages to each other. The construct of behavioral communication is conceived as a variable of Individual differences. This means that some people, more than others, tend to engage in indirect or behavioral communication, whether consciously doing so, unconsciously doing so, in spite of the different alternatives of using verbal communication. An individual's behavioral style greatly affects their verbal and nonverbal communication. It is rare that someone utilizes all one behavioral communication style, all of the time. Being able to identify one's own behavioral style requires a high level of self-awareness. (en)

Tout comportement (ou son absence quand on l'attend) peut être jugé comme communicatif s'il tend à transmettre un message. Par exemple, une coiffure expressive, l'expression d'une certaine émotion ou même le fait faire ou non la vaisselle peuvent tous être des moyens par lesquels on se transmet des messages. La construction de la communication comportementale est conçue comme la variation de différences individuelles. Cela signifie que certaines personnes, plus que d'autres, ont tendance à s'engager dans une communication indirecte ou comportementale, que ce soit consciemment ou inconsciemment, malgré les différentes alternatives d'utilisation de la communication verbale. Le style de comportement d'un individu affecte grandement sa communication verbale et non verbale. Il est rare qu'une personne utilise en permanence le même style de communication comportementale.
