Within Christianity, there are a variety of views on the issues of gender identity and transgender people. Christian denominations vary in their official position. Some denounce transgender identities, and some accept them; others are divided. Furthermore, not all members of a denomination necessarily support their church's views on transgender identities. The doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, including the Catechism, teaches that gender is binary and considers birth anatomy and gender identity to be equated.
