Circle Takes the Square is an American screamo band from Savannah, Georgia. It is composed of founding members Drew Speziale and Kathleen Stubelek, as well as Caleb Collins. Their debut release was a 6-track self-titled EP released in 2001, followed by a 7" split with Pg. 99 in 2002. In 2004, they released their debut studio album As the Roots Undo on Robotic Empire, which released the CD, and HyperRealist Records, which released the gatefold LP. The album gained them considerable acclaim and the band toured extensively to promote it during the year. This included a six-week east coast tour that took the band into Canada for the first time, supported by Arkata and Raise Them And Eat Them. Pod koniec 2004 zastąpił go Bobby Scandiffio. Odszedł on z zespołu w 2006, a na jego miejscu pojawił się David Rabitor. Największe zmiany w składzie nastąpiły po odejściu perkusisty Jaya Wynne w 2005. Kolejno zastępowali go Christian Billuga i Josh Ortega. Pod koniec kwietnia 2007 Caleb Collins (członek kanadyjskiej grupy Mare) ogłosił na MySpace, że przeprowadza się do USA, aby dołączyć do zespołu. Efter sina två första skivsläpp förlorade de en gitarrist men fick en ny sent år 2004. Bandets stil karaktäriseras av högljutt skrikande från både mans- och kvinnoröster, de fungerar som ett slags rop och gensvar, med kaotiskt trummande och tekniskt utvecklat bas/gitarr-spelande. Deras väldigt varierande sångstrukturer har också hjälpt till att utforma deras unika stil. Många beskriver deras låtar som 'episka' bland annat på grund av deras längd (vissa låtar är upp till 9,5 minuter långa) men mer på grund av att de förändras gradvis; de börjar långsamt och lugnt men går mer och mer in i kaos och blixtsnabbhet.
