Clackers (also known as Clankers, Ker-Bangers, and numerous other names) were toys popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1968, tempered glass sphere models emerged that would eventually shatter, sending glass shards into the face of the user and anyone nearby. In the early 1970s, manufacturers changed them to plastic spheres suspended on each string. When they were swung up and down, banging against each other with a lot of force they made the loud "clacking" sound. De bedoeling is dat men door een snelle op en neer gaande beweging van de pols, de ballen boven en onder de pols tegen elkaar aan te laten tikken, waarbij een klikklakgeluid ontstaat. Met de Klik-klaks werden wedstrijdjes gehouden. Wie is het snelst en houd het het langst vol. Was men niet zo behendig, dan kwamen de ballen keihard op de polsen en knokkels terecht. (nl)

En imprimant de légers mouvements à cet anneau, on amenait les boules à rebondir l'une contre l'autre (en produisant le bruit qui a donné son nom au jeu), jusqu'à ce que le mouvement prenne assez d'amplitude pour que les boules s'entrechoquent aussi bien au-dessus qu'au-dessous de la main du manipulateur, produisant un fracas continu. Plus le fracas durait longtemps (plusieurs dizaines de secondes, mais les plus doués parvenaient à le faire durer plusieurs minutes, même en marchant), plus le manipulateur suscitait l'admiration des enfants. La mode de cet objet passa aussi rapidement qu'elle était apparue. Joop Markovits zag dit speelgoed, 2 plastic ballen met een touwtje, voor het eerst in Italië en besloot terug in Nederland dit speelgoed in de eigen fabriek in productie te nemen. De ballen werden gemaakt van granulaat korrels. De korrels werden vloeibaar gemaakt en onder hoge druk samengeperst. Daarna werden 2 ballen aan een touwtje vastgemaakt met behulp van een verbindingsstukje. Door het geluid wat de ketsende ballen maakten, koos Markovits voor de naam Klik-klaks. Het speelgoed werd na een korte periode, een groot succes. Firma De Kruif in Woerden, verkocht als eerste de Klik-Klaks voor 2 gulden. Daarna waren ze in vele andere winkels te koop. Bij een productie van 50.000 per dag, werd voor het in elkaar zetten van het speelgoed gebruikgemaakt van Woerdense thuiswerkers, mensen van de sociale werkplaatsen en van gevangenissen. Bij een nog groter verkoopsucces, werden de ballen en onderdelen niet langer in elkaar gezet maar als losse onderdelen verkocht in een plastic zakje. Na een aantal maanden, was de rage voorbij. (nl)
