The coat of arms of the West Indies Federation was used between 1958 and 1962. The background of the shield bore four equally spaced narrow white stripes with a ten orange-gold discs representing each island grouping, undulating horizontally across a blue field representing the Caribbean Sea and the sun shining upon the waves. These devices were based upon the flag originally designed by Edna Manley. A triangle is superimposed on the shield, and the shield is topped by a lion passant guardant. The scroll beneath proclaims To Dwell Together In Unity. The shield is supported on either side by the country's national bird, the pelican, with wings extended. Above this is a helmet topped with a flaming torch held by an upright arm. The torch signifies a beacon to light a path.

Al timbre celada de oro forrada de sable, puesta de frente, sumada de un burelete de plata, sable, azur, oro y gules, adornada de lambrequines de lo mismo y de plata y sumada de un brazo de oro que sostiene una antorcha de lo mismo y encendida de gules que es la cimera de la Federación de las Indias Occidentales. Por soportes, dos pelícanos atrevidos de oro. Por divisa, en una lista de plata cargada de "To Dwell Together In Unity" de sable. En el campo del escudo figuraba una pila heráldica, pieza heráldica con forma de "V", con bordes de oro. La bordura, de plata (blanco heráldico) con ondas horizontales de azur (azul heráldico) que representaba al Mar Caribe y los diez bezantes de oro, discos en terminología heráldica, situados en su interior simbolizaron los diferentes grupos de las islas integradas en la Federación. Los elementos anteriores se encontraban situados bajo uno de los tres leones del escudo de Inglaterra. El timbre heráldico es un yelmo adornado con un burelete, lambrequín y una cimera con forma de antebrazo que sujeta a una antorcha, símbolo de la herencia africana de la población. El escudo está sujetado por dos pelícanos con las alas extendidas, denominados atrevidos al contar con una de sus patas levantada. En la parte inferior, un pergamino donde se lee, en inglés, el lema de la Federación "To Dwell Together In Unity", cuya traducción significa “Vivir juntos en unidad”. El escudo estuvo basado en la Bandera de la Federación cuyo diseño inicial fue elaborado por Edna Manley y ha inspirado los actuales escudos de armas de Barbados, Santa Lucía y San Cristóbal y Nieves.
