The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Irish: An Coimisinéir Cosanta Sonraí) (DPC), also known as Data Protection Commission, is the independent national authority responsible for upholding the EU fundamental right of individuals to data privacy through the enforcement and monitoring of compliance with data protection legislation in Ireland. Aufgaben des DPC sind die Überwachung des Rechts der erlassenen Gesetze sowie Sanktionen gegen Verstöße durchzusetzen. Amtierende DPC ist seit 2014 Helen Dixon. Ihr Vorgänger war Billy Hawkes. Er wurde 2005 ernannt und 2010 für eine weitere Periode von fünf Jahren bestätigt. Sein Vorgänger war Joe Meade.Der DPC ist Mitglied der Artikel-29-Datenschutzgruppe sowie der Internationalen Konferenz der Beauftragten für den Datenschutz und den Schutz der Privatsphäre. Im Vereinigten Königreich entspricht diese Funktion dem Information Commissioner. (de)
