Edward Thomas Copson FRSE (21 August 1901 – 16 February 1980) was a British mathematician who contributed widely to the development of mathematics at the University of St Andrews, serving as Regius Professor of Mathematics amongst other positions.

Copson va estudiar al Saint John's College (Oxford), i després va ser professor de matemàtiques primer a la universitat d'Edimburg (1922–29) i després a la universitat de St. Andrews (1930–34). Va ser nomenat professor ajudant de matemàtiques al Royal Naval College de Greenwich el 1934. Eine Anekdote besagt dazu, dass er Copson auf einem Bahnhof (Windermere) interviewte und ihm auf der anschließenden Zugfahrt den Lehrauftrag antrug.
