Gaspar Frutuoso (c.1522 in Ponta Delgada – 1591 in Ribeira Grande) was a Portuguese priest, historian and humanist from the island of São Miguel, in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. His major contribution to Portuguese history was his detailed descriptions of the history and geography of the Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and references to Cape Verde, which he published in his six-part tome , as well as Saudades do Céu. He is normally cited in settlement history of the islands of the Azores.

Bacharel em Artes e Teologia pela Universidade de Salamanca e doutor em Teologia, destacou-se pela autoria da obra Saudades da Terra, uma detalhada descrição histórica e geográfica dos arquipélagos dos Açores, Madeira e Canárias, para além de múltiplas referências ao de Cabo Verde e a outras regiões atlânticas. Essa abrangência faz de Gaspar Frutuoso um verdadeiro cronista insulano, já que a sua obra interessa ao conhecimento de toda a Macaronésia. (pt)

Licenciado en Artes y Teología por la Universidad de Salamanca fue el primer historiador de las Azores. ​ Nacido en la entonces villa de Ponta Delgada, Isla de San Miguel, era hijo de Frutuoso Dias, mercader y propietario rural, y de su mujer Isabel Fernandes. No se conoce su fecha exacta de nacimiento puesto que no había registros en esas fechas. Sin embargo se sabe que sus padres pertenecían a la pequeña aristocrácia rural. (es)
