Georgy Demidov (Russian: Гео́ргий Гео́ргиевич Деми́дов) (November 29, 1908 – February 19, 1987) was a Russian political prisoner and writer. Born in Saint Petersburg to a working-class family, Demidov showed technical and engineering gifts at an early age and was thought to be a future physicist. From 1929 to 1931 he was imprisoned for political crimes. In the winter of 1938, he was arrested in Kharkiv, where he was working and studying at the Kharkov Electrotechnical Institute, after being served a summons for an internal passport check. It was a check that was to last eighteen years. His interrogator threatened to arrest Demidov's wife, and orphan his five-month-old daughter.
