Harry Bache Smith (December 28, 1860 – January 1, 1936) was a writer, lyricist and composer. The most prolific of all American stage writers, he is said to have written over 300 librettos and more than 6000 lyrics. Some of his best-known works were librettos for the composers Victor Herbert and Reginald De Koven. He also wrote the book or lyrics for several versions of the Ziegfeld Follies. Smith worked on many of the famous musical theatre productions of his time. His younger brother Robert Bache Smith (June 4, 1875 – November 6, 1951) was also a successful lyricist.

Smith arbeitete als Reporter und Theaterkritiker für The Chicago Daily Newa. Seit Mitte der 1870er Jahre schrieb er etwa 6000 Songtexte und um die 300 Libretti für Operetten und Musicals, von denen mehr als 120 am Broadway aufgeführt wurden. In Zusammenarbeit mit entstanden u. a. The Begum (1888), Don Quixote (1889) und Robin Hood (1891), mit Victor Herbert The Wizard Of The Nile und The Sweethearts. Texte von ihm vertonten auch John Philip Sousa, Sigmund Romberg und Franz Lehár. Mit schrieb er den Text für The Sheik of Araby. Zwischen 1907 und 1912 schrieb er die Texte für die Ziegfeld Follies. Häufig arbeitete er mit seinem Bruder zusammen. (de)
