Il raconte les aventures de Frank Lehmann, barman habitant à Berlin-Ouest, dont la vie tranquille est soudainement bouleversée, le jour de son trentième anniversaire, par la chute du Mur de Berlin. Publié en 2001 à Eichborn, le roman est traduit par Colette Kowalski avant de paraître en France en 2004, et se vend à plus d’un million d’exemplaires dans le monde . Das Buch wurde 2001 bei Eichborn veröffentlicht und wenig später im Literarischen Quartett positiv besprochen. Die gleichnamige Verfilmung folgte im Jahr 2003. Das erste Kapitel von Herr Lehmann erschien bereits 1997 im Salmoxisboten unter dem Titel Der Hund. Laut Sven Regener existierte dieser Text bereits seit 1991, er sei anlässlich des 30. The book has sold more than 1 million copies in German and Regener received the Deutscher Filmpreis in gold for the screenplay. The story tells of the life of Frank Lehmann in Berlin in 1989. Regener's prequel (published in 2004) tells of Frank Lehmann's life in the year 1980, especially his time in the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) while the middle part of the trilogy (the little brother) (published 2008) tells of two days in November 1980, when Frank Lehmann arrives at Berlin and tries to find his older brother Manfred who lives as an artist in Berlin Kreuzberg.
