Proslul zejména tím, že vedl koalici irských klanů během povstání z roku 1598, které je někdy nazýváno Tyroneho povstání nebo také . Povstání představovalo největší ohrožení nadvlády Angličanů (Tudorovců) v Irsku od povstání v roce 1534.
