Ixtenco Municipality is a municipality in Tlaxcala in south-eastern Mexico. Ixtenco covers a territory of roughly 43.5 km². Apart from the town of Ixtenco, which is the seat of the local government, the municipality contains only one other community, called Miguel Muñoz León. The municipality borders the municipalities of Huamantla and Trinidad Sánchez Santos, as well as the State of Puebla. The municipal government consists of a municipal president, one syndic and seven representatives called regidors. The terrain sits on an old lava flow which determines the areas soil composition and underground water flows.

Se ubica en las faldas del volcán La Malinche o Matlalcueye, colindando al norte y oeste con el municipio de Huamantla, al sur con Zitlaltepec de Trinidad Sánchez Santos y al oriente con el municipio poblano de Nopalucan. Se la ha reconocido como el último reducto de la cultura otomí en el estado de Tlaxcala. El cerro Xalapasco, una loma de origen volcánico famosa por sus múltiples cráteres, se encuentra dentro de los límites del municipio. Ixtenco es el nombre del pueblo porque se cuenta que los primeros pobladores hacían un ritual con atole agrio hecho con un tipo especial de maíz color vino en una cueva cercana. (es)
