John Joseph Bennett (8 January 1801 – 29 February 1876) was a British botanist. Bennett was assistant keeper of the Banksian herbarium and library at the British Museum from 1827 to 1858, when he succeeded Robert Brown as Keeper of the Botanical Department. He retired in 1870. He was secretary of the Linnean Society of London from 1840 to 1860. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1841, and was elected member of Leopoldina in 1864. The standard author abbreviation Benn. is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name.
