Hij werd door Filips II naar voor geschoven om tot aartsbisschop van Mechelen te worden benoemd maar hij weigerde omwille van de te lage bezoldiging. Uiteindelijk werd Matthias Hovius als aartsbisschop geïnstalleerd. (nl)
