Lobectomy means surgical excision of a lobe. This may refer to a lobe of the lung (also simply called a lobectomy), a lobe of the thyroid (hemithyroidectomy), a lobe of the brain (as in anterior temporal lobectomy), or a lobe of the liver (hepatectomy).

La rimozione parziale o completa di un lobo del cervello viene eseguita per curare gravi forme di epilessia refrattaria ai farmaci. L'intervento può essere bilaterale e riguardare entrambi gli emisferi, oppure può riguardare solamente la rimozione parziale o completa del lobo temporale. Il metodo può essere usato anche in casi estremi per ridurre la pressione intracranica (lobectomia decompressiva). (it)

In de hersenen wordt lobectomie uitgevoerd bij patiënten met temporalekwabepilepsie bij wie een medicamenteuze behandeling geen soelaas biedt. Bij lobectomie van de longen wordt een volledige longkwab of longlob chirurgisch verwijderd. Dit gebeurt meestal omwille van een goedaardige of kwaadaardige tumor. Na de operatie zal er een geplaatst worden. Indien een hele long wordt verwijderd noemt men dit een pneumonectomie of pneumectomie. Een lobectomie kan via een open behandeling (thoracotomie) of via minimaal invasieve chirurgie, namelijk een kijkoperatie plaatsvinden. (nl)
