Long-distance cycling routes are designated cycling routes in various countries around the world for bicycle tourism. These routes include anything from longer rail trails, to national cycling route networks like the Dutch LF-routes,the French or the routes of the British National Cycle Network, to the multi-state routes of the United States Bicycle Route System, to the multi-country routes of the EuroVelo network in Europe, the longest of which is over 6,800 km (4,200 mi) in length.

- Une véloroute est un itinéraire cyclable de moyenne ou longue distance, continu (sans interruption, y compris dans les villes), adapté à la circulation à vélo (sécurité, balisage). En France, une véloroute n'est généralement pas entièrement en site propre : elle est composée d'un mélange de voies partagées avec les modes de transport motorisés et de voies en site propre pouvant être des voies vertes aux caractéristiques elles-mêmes normalisées. Zgodnie z normami znakowania PTTK, szlaki rowerowe oznaczone są białymi kwadratami z czarnym symbolem roweru i paskiem koloru szlaku (szlaki lokalne), lub pomarańczowymi znakami (szlaki pozostałe). Można jednak spotkać w terenie oznaczenia nie trzymające się tych norm (zwłaszcza starsze szlaki) np. biały kwadrat z symbolem roweru w kolorze szlaku.
