He was chief editor of Chinese Pharmaceutical Journal and Bulletin of Chinese Materia Medica, and associate chief editor of Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica. Lou was the graduate tutor of Tu Youyou, who is a renowned pharmaceutical chemist, educator and Nobel laureate.
