Memo motion or spaced-shot photography is a tool of time and motion study that analyzes long operations by using a camera. It was developed 1946 by at Purdue University, who was first to save film material while planning studies on kitchen work. Mundel published the method in 1947 with several studies in his textbook Systematic Motion and time study. A study showed the following advantages of Memo-Motion in regard to other forms of time and motion study:

Mundel veröffentlichte 1947 die Methode zusammen mit dem übrigen Repertoire des Scientific Management in seinem Lehrbuch Systematic Motion and time study. Eine weitere systematische Studie zu den Möglichkeiten der Memo-Motion zeigte bei folgenden Situationen Vorteile gegenüber den anderen, gängigen Verfahren zu Zeitstudien auf:
* Repetitive Einzelarbeit,
* Bereichsstudien, also Studien über einen Arbeits- oder Maschinenbereich,
* Studien zur Arbeit in Gruppen,
* Verteilzeitaufnahmen sowie
* Arbeitsbemessung. Als eine sehr vielseitige Methode des Arbeitsstudiums erlangte die Memo-Motion-Studie in den USA einige Bedeutung. Schon in England und erst recht auf dem europäischen Kontinent und den anderen Industrieländern war die Rezeption jedoch verhalten. Offenbar bestand zuerst eine große Schwierigkeit, überhaupt geeignete Kameras zu bekommen, dann gab es Widerstände gegenüber Filmaufnahmen allgemein. Heutzutage könnte die Memo-Motion ein Comeback erleben, da einerseits immer mehr Arbeitsplätze entstehen, für die sich die Methode anbietet und andererseits die meisten modernen Kameras für sie geeignet sind. * Aerea studies, the study of a group of men or machines. 3.
* Team studies. 4.
* Utilisation studies. 5.
* Work measurement. As a versatile tool of work study it was used in the US to some extent, but rarely in Europe and other industrial countries mainly because of difficulties procuring the required cameras. Today Memo-Motion could have a comeback because more and more workplaces have conditions which it can explore. (en)
