Bien que considéré comme un quartier, Montfavet possède une identité administrative particulière avec son propre code postal (84140), un maire-adjoint délégué et une mairie annexe. Il possède un noyau villageois situé à 5 km du centre historique avignonnais, abritant l'église Notre-Dame de Bon Repos du XIVe siècle. Ses 14 000 habitants sont appelés les Montfavétaines et Montfavétains.
