Nativity is a 1603-1605 painting of the Nativity of Jesus by El Greco. It was one of five paintings painted for the high altarpiece of the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad in Illescas, Toledo. It and three others still hang there (Charity, Coronation of the Virgin and Annunciation), whilst the fifth is in the National Museum of Art of Romania (Marriage of the Virgin). It is a simplification of his Adoration of the Shepherds from the Doña María de Aragón Altarpiece, omitting the shepherds and converting the scene into a circular format.

C'est l'une des cinq toiles commandées pour la chapelle majeure de l'hôpital Notre-Dame-de-la-Charité d'Illescas dans la province de Tolède. Quatre des toiles se trouvent désormais à l'hôpital d'Illescas : ce sont L'Annonciation, La Nativité, Le Couronnement de la Vierge et La Vierge de Charité. La cinquième, Le Mariage de la Vierge, est exposée à Bucarest au musée national d'Art de Roumanie. (fr)

Obraz był jednym z pięciu ocalonych obrazów ozdabiających kościół parafialny w Illescas. Na początku XVI wieku El Greco i jego syn Jorge Manuel otrzymali zamówienie na ozdobienie kościoła parafialnego. Mieli wykonać pięć drewnianych ołtarzy z dwoma naturalnej wielkości posągami proroków Symeona i Izajasza, rzeźbione tabernakulum i obrazy. Większość ozdób zaginęła w 1936 roku podczas wojny domowej. Ocalały jedynie obrazy: Zwiastowanie, Boże Narodzenie, Madonna Miłosierna, Święty Ildefons i Koronacja Matki Bożej ukryte w Madrycie w podziemiach budynku Narodowego Banku Hiszpanii. (pl)
