The obturator artery is a branch of the internal iliac artery that passes antero-inferiorly (forwards and downwards) on the lateral wall of the pelvis, to the upper part of the obturator foramen, and, escaping from the pelvic cavity through the obturator canal, it divides into both an anterior and a posterior branch.

(en) Die Arteria obturatoria („Hüftlocharterie“) ist eine Schlagader der unteren Extremität. Sie entspringt der Arteria iliaca interna und zieht durch das Foramen obturatum beziehungsweise den Canalis obturatorius – zusammen mit der gleichnamigen Vene und dem Nervus obturatorius – an die Innenseite des Oberschenkels. Anschließend teilt sie sich hinter dem Musculus pectineus in einen vorderen und hinteren Ast (Ramus anterior bzw. posterior). Sie versorgen die Adduktoren des Oberschenkels sowie über das Ligamentum capitis femoris auch den Hüftgelenkskopf des Oberschenkelknochens (Arteria capitis femoris). Der Ramus anterior anastomosiert mit der Arteria circumflexa femoris medialis, der Ramus posterior mit der Arteria glutaea inferior. Na pelve, a artéria obturatória emite ramos musculares, uma artéria nutrícia para o ílio e um ramo púbico. O ramo púbico origina-se logo antes da artéria obturatória deixar a pelve. Ascende na face pélvica do púbis para se anastomosar com seu companheiro do lado oposto e o ramo púbico da artéria epigástrica inferior, um ramo da artéria ilíaca externa. Em uma variação comum (20%), uma artéria obturatória aberrante ou acessória origina-se da artéria epigástrica inferior e desce até a pelve ao longo da via habitual do ramo (pt)
